ebay selling tips for success
73If you are new to selling on the internet, auctioning items on eBay can be a good way to start to make money online. You don't have to have your own website up and running to test market a product and eBay is an active marketplace. It is actually easy to sell things on eBay, but it is not always so easy to sell things on eBay profitably. I've assembled handful of essential eBay selling tips for success. These apply to selling on sites other than eBay as well, such as eCrater.
Eye on the prize
1. You are in this to make money! Keep your eye on the prize. There is no point in selling items at cost just to make a sale. If you don't think you can sell an item profitably, don't bother with it. Remember to compute a monthly subscription fee into your costs as well as final value fees from eBay.
2. Stay focused on your niche. This is particularly true if you are a part-timer. Researching new products and market niches takes time. If you go to a garage sale looking for vintage books, be wary of getting distracted by something else you see like an old record player that still runs just because you think it could be a bargain. It might not be! Creating new and detailed custom product listings with photos for multiple items also takes time-more than you think when you're starting out. To have some hope of success early, you'll need to focus on one or two niche areas. Don't worry-you'll have plenty to do.
3. Keyword stuff the title for your product listing. Keyword stuffing online is usually a bad thing, but keyword stuffing your auction title is absolutely the easiest thing you can do to help your listings sell! Buyers find your products through title searches, so you need to put as much information as you can in the title such as a brand name and features. You might also add any common misspelling of that name if you can. Always check your title for unintentional spelling errors, since these can kill your visibility in searches. If you can't get buyers to see your listings, you won't get any sales!
4. Product listings must be detailed and accurate. No one wants to buy an item only to discover later it isn't the model they thought it was or that the "gently used" item was actually pretty well-worn. Customers want to know what they'll be getting for their dollar. Also, it isn't uncommon with used items that a certain accessory isn't being sold with it that the customer might expect. If a drill is being sold without drill bits, for example, or a used iPod without any headphones, it is best to state this explicitly in your auction listing to avoid conflicts after the sale.
5. Ship products on time and get delivery signatures for most items. Many feedback complaints from customers stem from shipping bugaboos such as delayed shipping. Especially around the Christmas holiday, people want to get their products before the big day so you must be able to ship orders promptly. People also expect the products to arrive without extra damages or scratches, so don't skimp on packing materials. You should also generally request a delivery signature. Paypal will require it for items over a certain dollar amount anyway. Be aware that if you get an internet merchant account to accept credit cards you will have to get a signature to contest any customer chargebacks for nondelivery. Delivery confirmation from the USPS will not protect you if the customer complains he did not receive the item and initiates a chargeback. For cheaper items, you can self-insure against these types of losses and not require delivery signatures.

Bonus tip: Be creative and have fun!
Remember to keep an eye out for creative ways to use eBay in your business. You might auction special items for holidays or put a special package deal together as a unique product. For instance, if you work in travel you could auction super bowl hotel rooms as part of an NFL fan dream vacation package.
